Digital Photography - How to Take Advantage of White Balance

If you have taken a photo of a predominately white area only to discover that what was supposed to be white looks kind of blue instead then you have experienced what a digital camera's white balance is supposed to prevent. White balance is a sensor that handles the job of analyzing the conditions of a scene and makes the necessary adjustments so what is white about a picture looks like it is supposed to and not show a shade or should I say an aura of blue.

The main idea behind white balance is to help make pictures look as natural as possible and is one of the main advantages that digital photography had over traditional film. In the case of film, you buy with a certain light condition in mind and if there is any change you have to change the film that you are using of perhaps hope to be able to fix any errors in post production.

The vast majority of all digital cameras have an automatic white balance and/or some presets that you can use to correct any errors. Sometimes you may want to enhance colors on a picture. The best way to do this is using some set ups such as a "cloudy" setting to give a warm tonality to the picture. This helps give the picture a more warm feel. To really know how to take advantage of white balance as a way to make changes to the feel of the pictures you have to experiment. Over time the best setting for a situation will come to mind spontaneously .
